Fabric story: "Berang" Pandanus Palm String

Inland Pandanus Palm are found on country near our hot thermal pools. This plant fibre is used for weaving to make Dillybags. Mainly designed and used by our women to gather and transport food, freshwater mussels and babies. In addition they can be made out of cabbage palm or black palm leaves.

Garment Construction

All pieces are crafted and developed locally in Cairns by Cindy Hudson head seamstress (Jedess’ Mother). This allows Cindy and Jedess to ensure that each piece has high-quality workmanship.

Materials

Fabric selection – Tencel Linen. Sourced from an Australian fabric printer and supplier. 

Impact - Tencel is a cellulose fibre made from wood pulp (which comes from sustainably grown forests), and because it is derived from a plant it is biodegradable. 
It is less susceptible to odorous bacteria and is 50% more absorbent than cotton due to being breathable. The production process of this fabric has passed OEKO-TEX® certification.

Care Instructions

Gentle machine wash and hang in the shade. Iron-friendly (warm-hot). When clothing is wet item will feel quite stiff. Wrinkle resistant.
